Palm’s WebOS is having a bit of a rough time gaining momentum with their app store.  Well the new Ares SDK is now here in beta form and for us non-programmers.  You can use the online application to create a WebOS based app without any external tools.  The interface is simple with drag and drop controls.  Try it out for yourself and get building.  You can still use the software based Mojo SDK, but why not give it a shot here first.

  We knew it was coming and hoped for an early beta.  Either way we will be getting Chrome OS next year.  The operating system is like many suspected and meant to integrate seamlessly with the cloud.  The OS will integrate the suite of Google apps along with a very lightweight, open source platform.  The x86 and ARM platforms are both supported thus leading us to believe it could be on some very hand mobile devices.  Late 2010 or about a year from now we will be sure to try it out and let you know if it is worth the upgrade or change.

  For the past week or so many have believed that Google’s Chrome OS would be available within a week or two.  While this may or may not be true, one thing is for sure, we get to see it in action on Thursday or I should say some people do.  Google is hosting an event this week at its headquarters in Mountain View, Ca. 

Hopefully Google does a beta like all of their other products.

  Windows 7 is officially among us.  The long awaited Vista replacement/upgrade is a significant step in the right direction for the Operating system.  Windows has met the maturity of OSX and the differentiation is more of a preference than that of security and stability.  Windows has driven me to long nights and near insanity in the past with its numerous bugs and whatnot.  This time there has been little hair pulling since the first beta was made available.  Now we can all rest for awhile and have a worthy succesor to XP.  If you’re in the market for multiple PC’s or copies for Boot Camp on your Mac then check out the $149.00 family pack and save yourself some money.

  The day of the phone that can do just about everything using the interweb is just around the corner. WHile only a few phones can use Flash at this point such as the new HTC Hero, most do not have such a simple feature.  Adobe in the video below demonstrates the Flash integration of the Palm Pre.  The beta should be here before the years end for both the WebOS platform and Windows Mobile.  Android and RIM will have Flash available next year.  iPhone at this point is the one platform that looks like it will never support Flash.  This alone may get some people to switch, but then again maybe not.

  iPhone 3.1 Beta 1 brought us non-destructive video editing on the 3GS and voice control via bluetooth.  What 3.1 Beta 2 has to offer is a mystery at this point, but as we look for changes and notice any we will be sure to let you know.  If you are a developer for iPhone you can get it in your Dev downloads page. 

  If you have paid your $99 and have access to the development kit for iPhone, then you can now get the most recent update.  The iPhone SDK 3.0-Beta 4 and iTunes 8.2 Pre-Release are now available.  While we do not have a lot of details regarding the updates, we do know that in order to activate the iPhone 3.0 Beta 4 firmware you must already have iTunes 8.2 installed.  We will be sure to update you of any significant changes should they come our way.

 "One forum poster points out that the latest iTunes 8.2 beta carries references to Blu-Ray data from Gracenote, suggesting that iTunes could support the reading/recognizing of Blu-Ray discs. This note is not present in the current version of iTunes"

  There has been an enormity of speculation regarding the next Apple products as usual, and although the picture above is just a concept, there is some recent news about many different Apple products coming to us in the near future that every Apple fan should know.

Snow Leopard has been a long time coming, or so it seems.  While the next iteration of OSX is just around the corner and in the same release cycle of OSX releases, the time we have sepnt thinking about it feels extended as to the Leopard release.  Recent news says it should be out by September due to the work remaining for Quicktime, Open CL and other essentials to the operating system.

The next Xserve will be available in June and will be updating the line of Mac Pro with Xeon processors.

The next iPhone will be fairly soon for this summer and have some sort of video integration.  We should see some hardware updates as well and could even see a dual-core processor.  Although doubtful, we could see the addition of a QWERTY keyboard similar to the Palm Pre, which would make many very happy.  There will be tethering as seen in iPhone 3.0 beta, but for an unknown cost at this time.

  Windos 7 Beta ill be available for download on January 9th per Microsoft.  For those who were not fond of Vista, Window 7 is much better in my personal experience.  The Beta is very stable and much faster than Vista and in some reports, XP.  This is definitely worth checking out, and why not, it’s free.

  Apple has announced an online application called iWork.com.  It will be announced in a beta soon, but they showed it off at MacWorld today for the first time.  

“iWork.com is a service for you to share with other people. You can notify other people that you’ve shared documents, and collaborate on them. They can review and edit documents online.”

You can download a copy and your collaborators can download a copy, and each person can add notes and comments which are seen by everybody.

There can be multiple people viewing the document, all leaving notes to each other on the right hand side about the whole document. You can then download the doc directly from the website. What you can’t do is edit documents online–it looks like you have to download it and edit it offline.

To see other people’s comments that they’ve created online, you can click “show shared documents” in Pages, and view the documents you’ve uploaded. A blue dot shows a new note that you need to read.

By going back to the shared pages list, you can see the Keynote/Pages/Numbers docs you’ve shared, including all the notes people gave.

Customers can sign up free for the beta, but it will be a fee-based service once iWork.com launches.  Another use besides sharing documents with others is sharing documents with yourself, seeing your docs anywhere. It ships today.
