Amongst the rumors coming from the upcoming 2009 MacWorld Expo is the iPod Shuffle. FBR Capital Markets believe the shuffle to be coming in the first quarter. In their statement they state, a ”new and smaller version” of the iPod Shuffle that may appear some time during the first quarter.” While this may or may not be true, the Shuffle is due for an overhaul despite its very functional and sleek look. The photo above is an obvious concept, but the shuffle could only be improved upon by adding a screen in our opinion, and the concept gives us an idea of the possibilities.

its really yours because the only thing that makes this ipod different is the fact he has no screen. Putting a screen on a shuffle like this fake (but nicely rendered) prototype make it a small ipod nano.
We all expect future versions of ipod shuffle without screen.
A screen would reduce the wonderful battery life of ipod shuffle (particularely with the feature that turns it off when you unplug the headphone). Maybe some smoother control could be added with synthetic voices.
I agree, support for lossless and better audio shielding to get rid of the hissing would be great. I do think a simple screen would help though as long as it did not use a lot of battery life. I enjoy my shuffle almost every day as I use it when sleeping as my wife does not like music being played while asleep. The shuffle is just about perfect as I noted, but I personally would like some way to pic a song, rather than scroll until hit the right song.
What would be nice is support for apple lossless and removal of background hissing that prevent to listen confortably at low level.
I am not sure that this idea would work. I believe the shuffle should be the first to have radio capabilities.=]
i'm contented with my old shuffle... i can see no other differ than being half a size smaller than the older version.
i just got the ipod shuffle and i am pretty impressed with it but the only thing tha bugs me is that you can't use any other headphones or speeckers with i think it should have a universal adapter to plug into speackers.

How would anyone ever be able to watch a video on that screen, unless it's in an extremely wide-screen format, and even then we'd have to squint at the screen that's an inch away from our eyes. same goes for photos
